HEOL
Plastic marine waste autonomous picker
Presentation of HEOL
HEOL objectives
HEOL is engaged in plastic pollution problem around the world. We’re committed to not only providing quality products and services, but going above and beyond to ensure our customers are completely satisfied. We welcome you to look through our site to see all we have to offer.
Activities
In Pursuit of cleaner coasts ans oceans
Objectives
Develop a self-contained garbage can in the open sea. Removing electricity needs, and improving the scope of the project, is what Heol wants
A WORLD-SIZED PROBLEM
At least 1,800 billion plastic wastes pollute the oceans. Over the years, they have clumped together into a monstruous mass that continues to spread in the Middle Pacific: the "7th continent".
A study has spread over that this floating continent is spread over an area equivalent to three times that of France.
On our scale, we have seen this pollution on the beaches of Nice and in the Mediterranean sea. We decided to take action! What do we do ?
We are developing a new submerged machine capable of vacuuming floating plastic wastes in seas.
The buoys are designed to harvest macro and micro pollutants (< 0.5 mm) in sea conditions. Moreover, it has been estimated that 1 single buoy should reap around 900 kg of waste in one year.
The system aims to use only sustainable energies and does not need any human presence to work properly :
It is an autonomous bin using 100% green energy preventing the arrival of marine waste on our shores and vice versa.
Don't work harder, work smarter
HEOL is a mix of different and well known technologies based on simple physical phenomenons. Today, wind power is an underrated source of energy for a lot of applications on smallest scales (under 10 meters above sea level) and this is why we are taking advantage of the situation !

CAD CHALLENGE 2019
Starting a business
HEOL participated in the ROTARY 2020 Trophy competition. This event aims to highlight some of the most innovative business creation projects in the PACA (France) region.
The team had the privilege of being selected among the 28 participants to present the project Friday, October 16.
Results
The project was awarded a prize allowing the team to obtain a grant, but not only that!
In addition to receiving financial assistance, HEOL will receive assistance in the form of a commercial action training program offered by AKTISEA but also a strategic report to protect the company's intellectual property from Hautier IP.
CAD CHALLENGE 2019
Competition on the theme: Global warming
HEOL participated in the call for project of Influence ta Ville based on Nice - France. Participants were able to offer their ideas on the themes of consumption, waste management, mobility in the city and on climate.
The team was therefore present and selected for the final oral session before a jury concerned with these global issues.
Results
We are pleased to announce that our group has been awarded a grant from the city of Nice allowing us to further our research on the development of our surface water clean-up system.
This sum will initially be used to perfect our first tests on a 1/10 scale and then allow the realization of a functional technical model that the team will test at sea!
1st Prototype : Tests and conclusions
These last two weeks have been crucial for us.
The arrival of our brand new functional prototype was a quite exciting moment for the team !
Indeed, after theory comes practice
Our previous numerical simulations let us known that HEOL buoys were performing their job but what about it in real conditions ?
This is why we are glad to announce that the results are really encouraging and overcome our expectations !
Salon des Entrepreneurs - Marseille 2019
For the 1st time, HEOL met all kinds of french entrepreneurs. This was a real opportunity to discover the craze about entrepreuneurship and international development.
Our objectives were to share and discuss about how to grow a nascent market/product.
Several contacts have been made with talented and experienced professional / entrepreuneurs and we can't wait to develop and reach our goals to clean up oceans and seas !
CAD CHALLENGE 2019
HEOL participated to the CAD Challenge 2019. This competition has on purpose to gather different people of different engineering and technological profiles to elaborate a 3D model with different mecanical simulations with a business plan of an innovative system.
Thanks to this Challenge, Heol has developed a new autonomous technology gathering the plastic wastes flaoting on the surface of water and won the ECOLOGIE award.
